There are many champions who have achieved the ultimate honour of lifting a world crown in their chosen sport. But there is only one man who has acheived a tremendous feat on both two and four wheels. His name is John Surtees and this is his amazing story.
We follow his career by way of two individual films within this 85 minute video, each made by producers famous for the depth, breath, and quality of their archive libraries. First of all, David Wood charts John Surtees' motorcycle years... ten seasons of racing which netted him no less than seven world titles!
The story is picked up by John himself, as producers Neville Hay illustrates the highs and lows of Surtees' career on four wheels. When he won the F1 World Championship for Ferrari in 1964, John Surtees achieved a position in motor racing history which is unlikely to be matched at any time in the future.
En route to F1 success Surtees came close to death as a driver and financial ruin as a Formula One team owner and Grand Prix constructor. In typical Surtes fashion, all of these obstacles were overcome and 'Gentleman John' now lives in stylish retirement, surrounded by one of the world's finest collection of classic racing motorcycles. The two films in this video cover both Surtees' motorsport careers in the depth they deserve, each film making great use of
rare archive footage. It's a unique video aobut a unique talent... John Surtees, World Champion on two wheels and four.
