Hawthorn & Collins: British Racing Legends
Item #5906 - $29.95
To his many admirers, Peter Collins was the Golden Boy of the 1950's British motor racing. His good looks, friendly charm & supreme racing ability earned him a army of fans whose admiration only increased when Collins gifted the World Championship to Fangio in 1956 - the year he joined Ferrari. Tragically, he lost his life at Nürburgring just two weeks after winning the 1958 British Grand Prix.

1958 was also the year his great friend and Ferrari teammate Mike Hawthorne became Britain's first World Motor Racing Champion. In GP cars Hawthorn was exciting to watch, especially when duelling with Fangio whom he beat twice, but his ability in sport and saloon cars also helped establish him as one of the all-time greats. Sadly, the end of his career was tainted by a series of personal disasters not least being the death of Collins. In 1959 Hawthorn himself died in a road accident not long after his retirement.

Now the story of these two diverse and popular characters is covered throughout their careers. Unique film footage from their early races and rare interview footage with Ferrari and Vanwall driver Tony Brooks, Aston Martin's team manager John Wyer, Lofty England of Jaguar, Stirling Moss, American 1961 Champion Phil Hill and Roy Salvadori feature in this tribute to two outstanding drivers from a golden age of World Championship motor racing.
