Ferrari: The Story of a Legendary Marque
Item #3046 - $19.95
A fascinating film history of an Italian thoroughbred like no other. Ferrari - the fiery red car with the temperamental personality, as quintessentially Italian as its namesake Enzo Ferrari.

Until 1938 Enzo managed the Alfa Romeo race team under the banner Scuderia Ferrari, but when Enzo split from Alfa he began building sports cars in his own name using the V12 Colombo engine. Ferrari - the marque was born. Victories followed in the Mille Miglia, the Targo Florio and the tour of Sicily but Enzo Ferrari had Grand Prix motor racing uppermost in his mind. Success came with drivers such as Gonzales, World Champion Alberto Ascari (until his untimely death in 1955), Englishman Peter Collins and Juan Manuel Fangio who came in to drive the Lancia Ferrari in late '55.

Black and white footage brings to life the early days of motor racing when drivers raced in shirt sleeves and it didn't pay to be feint-hearted! Epic struggles against his 'old firm' Alfa Romeo, German giants Mercedes, Maserati and Vanwall, (with British hero Stirling Moss at the wheel) - all offered competition to the 'Prancing Horse'.

The racing legend passes through the 40's and 50's achieving considerable refinement in the 60's, 70's and 80's when, still under the guiding hand of Enzo, Ferrari win the World Manufacturer's Championship in 1982 and '83. Early color film together with contemporary footage captures the spirit in this informative documentary which chronicles so well the Golden Age of Motor Racing.
